Chris Mills - Living In The Aftermath (www.ernestjenning.com)

Take the fanciful, day-dreaming songs about all things whimsical of Robin Hitchcock, and twist them together (like soft vanilla and chocolate swirl, mmm...), with Graham Parker's hard-bitten optimism, and you'll have an idea of what you'll hear in Chris Mills' songs about lovers on the run from aliens, A-bombs, and vampire insects. All the songs on Living In The Aftermath are well crafted pop tunes, like a Jonathan Richman album. But the comparisons end there as Chris Mills and his ace band progress on these evolutionary tunes!! "Such A Beautiful Thing" is a gentle, waltz-time tune that evokes Wilco's beautiful-wreck style of songwriting. This an impressively fun and interesting album. It sounds like these songs would translate well onto the live stage, giving them even more depth and creativity - Phil Rainone
