The
Diplomats of Solid Sound (Featuring The Diplomettes)
(pravdamusic.com)
The Diplomats Find Themselves
in the middle of a rock & soul stew! And
let's also throw in some tasty gumbo, and
a few crawdads for some extra flavor
Starting out with a bass line including,
but not limited to, retro-swing, 60's R&B,
funky, electric Chicago blues, & old school
rock n' roll, The Diplomats broaden their
musical horizon, mixing the musical DNA's
of genres like a Chinese buffet. But the spotlight
is definitely on retro-swing. The Diplomettes
– which includes Sarah Cram, Katherine
Rustow, and Abbie Sawyer - are like The Andrews
Sisters pick up Betty and Veronica from Archie
comics and zoom on over to The Camaros pad
for a few cocktails, capped off with a pillow
fight. A powerful mix of sweet, harmonious
vocals highlighted by a good-girl-gone-bad
attitude. The rest of the band, including
Nate "Count" Basinger on Hammond
B3 organ, Doug Robertson on guitar, Jim Viner
on drums, and David Basinger and Eddie McKinley
on sax, weave their boozy charm in and out
of this 11 song album. A sweetly seductive
cover of Carla Thomas' "B-A-B-Y"
is dead-on. In fact, the whloe disc is dead-on!
Great musicianship, cool-as-a-cucumber vocal
harmonies, and just the right mix of genres.
Fabulous! Can't wait to see them live! - Phil
