SING
SOS – Songs of the Spectrum (www.singsos.org)
This excellent and affecting fourteen song
compilation album was recorded for an organization
for children suffering from autism. Naturally,
said songs are often quite thoughtful and
poignant, with a genuine warmth and compassion
shown to those afflicted with this unfortunate
disorder. Moreover, there’s a strong
sense of hope, courage, and, most surprisingly,
even a little humor to be gleaned amid all
the expected despair. All the songs are truly
moving and exceptional, with Kelly Flint’s
“Hide and Seek,” Marshall Crenshaw’s
“Understanding,” Teddy Geiger’s
extremely touching “Afraid (My Brother’s
Cries),” the jaunty “He’s
Coming Back” by Don Dixon and Marti
Jones, and the witty “It’s Time”
by Dan Bern and Mike Viola qualifying as especially
stand-out tracks. A lovely and quietly powerful
collection of first-rate songs.
